Dermal Filler

The field of aesthetic medicine is constantly evolving with technology-based products and new methods for their use. Loss of volume is a basic component of facial aging. The factors contributing to this are fat displacement, changes in the skeletal structure and reductions in the tissue components.

Dermal fillers are the substances which are used in the treatment of wrinkles, in facial areas requiring volume, in the treatment of gutters and pits and are body-compatible and supplied in ready-to-use injectors on the market. Different types of filler substances are available, in our day, hyaluronic acid-based substances are most commonly used. Hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide found in the dermis and has a high solubility in water due to its chemical structure and forms a viscose clear gel by easily dissolving in water. The hydrophilic structure of hyaluronic acid plays a very important role in the regulation and protection of hydration for tissues. This substance, normally found in the human body, has a permanence of 8-12 months when given to the body by injection.

It has different forms of density to be applied to the different areas of the face. Low-density forms are used for fine wrinkles and high-density forms are used for deep wrinkles. It is the gold standard in the treatment of nasolabial folds and in lip thickening today.

The procedure can be carried out under office conditions and with the help of an analgesic cream. After the procedure, the individual may continue his/her daily life. Slight swelling and numbness may occur for a few days which is an expected condition the swelling will regress within a few days and the actual effect will show up. Although the permanence varies from person to person, it usually preserves the desired effect for 8-12 months.
